If you've heard the name Toei before then it's likely from its anime subsidiary Toei Animation that produces One Piece, Dragon Ball, and is responsible for both Sailor Moon and Digimon. For fans of those long-running anime, I'm happy to share the news that Toei is branching into gaming. Toei Games will first venture into the PC game market "launching games primarily for Steam" according to a press release, although there are plans "for expansion to home consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox" later down the line. ぜひフォローして、続報をお待ちください✨ pic.twitter.com/npJn3ZwEzJApril 21, 2026Now comes the bad news, Toei Games will not be producing games for its existing series, at least not for the time being.

"Our goal is to create a new IP that will captivate the world, starting with games," the press release explains. "The initial lineup of titles, which will be announced at a later date, will not be games using Toei's existing IPs, but rather completely new game titles created by talented creators from Japan and abroad." That means no new One Piece games coming from Toei, sorry to disappoint that one fan in Toei Games' X replies asking for a "great One Piece game" or at least something that has better quality than Bandai Namco.

I'm honestly more excited than disappointed about this announcement, I have no doubt that Toei will create some brilliant new worlds and stories. Creating original games is also probably a good place to start instead of hyping everyone up with a new One Piece or Dragon Ball game only to perhaps fall short of expectations. But who's to say making use of all Toei's anime's isn't on the table once Toei Games finds its footing?

I'd be down for a Sailor Moon game for sure. There's no news on what Toei's first original game will be, but we won't have to wait long as it's set to be announced later this week on Friday. So until then we'll just have to wait with bated breath, and try to not get too excited about what it could be.
