Paul McCartney's debut solo album, released in 1970, marked the end of The Beatles era. The album's release came just weeks after the band's official breakup, sparking controversy and comparisons with their final album, Let It Be.
1970 was an important year for music. The year before, The Beatles had recorded their two final albums, and shortly after, John Lennon had told his bandmates that he was leaving the band. In January of that year, they had played their last show on the rooftop of their studio, where they were recording what would later become Let It Be. In the movie that accompanied the album, and much later, in Peter Jackson's documentary, The Beatles: Get Back, the fractures within the band are plain to see.
