Texas football made a big addition to its 2027 recruiting class on Saturday with the commitment of Brookhaven, MS edge Derwin Fields during his visit to the UT Campus for the Texas Football Spring Fan Day. Fields' visit started on Friday and ends on Sunday. It's Fields' first time in Austin.The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder chose Texas over Ole Miss, where he had an official visit scheduled for the end of May.

Fields had offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and UCLA, among others. A consensus four-star prospect, Fields is ranked as the No. 196 player overall and the No. 20 edge, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He tells Horns247 it made Mississippi native feel like a real priority for the Longhorns. "It went from getting a text every couple of days to everyday," Fields said. "They're keeping in contact on everything.

"Just the history behind it. I know they have a lot of history with all of the players they've developed and I know that they're a winning program.
