Christopher Nolan’s new historical epic, The Odyssey, gets official confirmation that the runtime will be shorter than Oppenheimer’s 3-hour length.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was always going to be one of those movies people start treating like an event long before they’ve actually seen a frame of it. It’s a Homer adaptation, it’s Nolan, it’s shot for IMAX, and it’s carrying the kind of scale that practically invites people to assume it’ll run forever. So when producer Emma Thomas revealed the movie will come in at under three hours, that instantly became one of the more surprising updates to come out of the film’s CinemaCon push.

It’s still clearly going to be huge. Just maybe not quite as huge as some people were bracing for.
