Dana Altman has been hard at work searching for a new point guard in the transfer portal to fill the void that Jackson Shelstad left behind. So far, the Oregon Ducks have not been able to wrangle in an elite scorer and facilitator for the offense, and the Ducks missed out on one of their top choices.San Jose State transfer guard Colby Garland announced his commitment to Georgia Tech on Tuesday. Garland was in Eugene on Monday for a visit with the Ducks, which seemed to be going well as Garland posted pictures to his story on Instagram.

Last season for the Spartans, he averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, while shooting 49.0% from the field and 37.2% from 3-point range.A third-team All-Mountain West performer, Garland is the ball-handler in the backcourt that has eluded Altman this offseason, and the options remaining in the portal, which closes on Tuesday, are beginning to thin.The Ducks have managed to secure commitments from San Francisco transfer Tyrone Riley IV and Kentucky guard Jasper Johnson, both of whom are capable scorers with experience against quality competition.
However, neither is the type to run the offense for the Ducks. Oregon is still in the mix for Saint Mary's transfer Mikey Lewis, whose visit with Villanova was canceled recently, and he appears to be gearing up for a decision between the Ducks and Vanderbilt.Garland has just one season of eligibility left, so he wasn't a long-term solution for the Ducks, but he would have been a focal point in Oregon's new look heading into next season. Altman has some other options still on the table, but the Ducks will have to sell out to land one ball-handler.
The Ducks are also involved in the race for the nation's top recruit, five-star forward Tyran Stokes.
