Despite the title connecting it to the iconic Universal Monsters property, Cronin's divisive adaptation shares very little with the classic interpretations or even the Brendan Fraser-led modern remakes that share the Mummy moniker. As opposed to centering around a resurrected ancient Egyptian priest, Lee Cronin's The Mummy focuses on a family whose daughter disappears in Egypt, only to be recovered eight years later trapped in an ancient sarcophagus.
