Years of confusion damaged a hero's chance to stand out from the crowd.

After the debut of Supergirl in 1958, it seemed like the Superman Family had solidified, though a few superpets would show up in the years that followed. Still, the Last Son of Krypton wasn't so much the "last" anymore. The Bottle City of Kandor was already around, and now Supergirl gave Superman a living blood relative.

But that was for Earth-One. Over on Earth-Two, the Golden Age Superman was still all alone. Then, in 1976, creators Gerry Conway, Ric Estrada, and Wally Wood would change that and, in the process, introduce one of DC's most mishandled characters.
