ChatGPT down: OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Codex faced a sudden outage, leaving users in India and the United States unable to access the platforms. Over 2,373 reports were logged on Downdetector across both countries, with users reporting problems with ChatGPT, Codex, the app, and login access. The disruption appeared quickly and cut across both web and mobile users.

Many users reported errors and failed responses, interrupting daily tasks like writing, debugging, and general queries. OpenAI’s status page confirmed the issue is under investigation. This comes just days after a previous outage, raising fresh concerns about the platform’s ability to handle its growing user base.

The problems were experienced across several products, which included ChatGPT, Codex, the mobile application, and log-in access, indicating that the disruption was not isolated to one product only. OpenAI’s official statement OpenAI says they are looking into the problem, but they haven’t explained why it happened yet. People are still waiting to find out what caused the crash and when everything will be fixed.

How social media reacted Users quickly turned to X to check whether the services were down. While doing so, many also vented their frustration. As one user wrote, ‘Of course ChatGPT picks the worst time to go down,’ while another pointed out, ‘ChatGPT and Codex both down at once? There goes my entire workflow.’ One user also took a dig at CEO Sam Altman, posting, ‘Sir, your whole product is offline.’ These were just a few of the posts, as social media has gone wild with reactions, memes, and trolls directed at OpenAI.
