Deadpool won’t have a leading role in Ryan Reynolds’ next MCU team-up movie Ryan Reynolds has suggested that Deadpool may not remain the central focus in his next appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at a live taping of Sunday Sitdown Live in New York City on April 7, Reynolds addressed ongoing questions about the future of the franchise and whether another standalone installment is in development. During the conversation, Reynolds confirmed that he has been working on ideas related to the character but made it clear that the next project may take a different approach.

He noted, “I have some stuff kind of written,” before adding that he does not plan to build the story entirely around Deadpool again. The actor said, “I don’t think I am going to center him again. I think he’s a supporting character.

He’s a guy that is great in a group.” The comments come after renewed attention surrounding the franchise following his collaboration with Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The film sparked speculation about future installments and how the character could fit into upcoming Marvel projects. However, there are rumblings that Marvel Studios may move forward with another Deadpool film sooner than expected.

A fourth part could be prioritized after Avengers: Secret Wars. This move may delay other projects, such as the planned X-Men reboot. Reynolds has previously outlined a clear approach for how Deadpool should function within the wider Marvel universe.

He indicated that while the character can cross paths with major teams, he should not fully integrate into them. “I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
