Actor Bimal Oberoi has responded to the unexpected online popularity of his character Shirani from Dhurandhar 2, which has sparked a wave of memes across social media. Viewers have humorously compared the character to Doraemon and even the quick-commerce platform Blinkit, referring to him as a dependable problem-solver for Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza Ali Mazari. In an interview with Zoom, Oberoi said he first learned about the trend through his nephew, who explained how audiences were playfully interpreting the character.
He added that he has been receiving a steady stream of messages from viewers reacting to the comparisons. “Vo kaha se kaha le gaye iss baat ko. Ye Doraemon hai, ye Blinkit hai… (laughs) And every day, I get at least 40 to 50 messages on Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook,” he said.
The actor noted that when Shirani was written, the intention was likely to present him as a dependable support figure within the story rather than as a character audiences would reinterpret through humour online. The meme culture surrounding the role, however, has helped amplify its visibility among viewers. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the two-part spy thriller franchise has emerged as a major box office success, crossing Rs 3,000 crores worldwide.

The sequel continues Hamza Ali Mazari’s journey as he rises within Lyari while targeting a terror network. The film also features performances by Arjun Rampal, R.
