Dakorien Moore is swapping out his cleats for spikes on Friday, competing in the Oregon Team Invitational at Hayward Field on Friday.
We've seen what Dakorien Moore can do on the football field for the Oregon Ducks. With a combination of tremendous speed, sudden route-running and excellent hands, Moore could leap to the top of the Ducks' depth chart at wide receiver this season. On Friday, however, Moore will be leaping at the sandpit for the Oregon track and field team. Moore is slated to participate in the long jump event in the Oregon Team Invitational, returning to his "secondary sport" for the first time since high school."I started football and track at the same time," Moore said during a media session on Thursday.
"I was about five years old. Started football and track, so I actually have a lot of love for it; it's like my second secondary sport. So, being that I grew up running it, came fresh out of high school straight from it to here."Moore is listed in the first flight for the long jump, alongside fellow Oregon long jumper Aiden Carter.
Tre Betts and Titouan Bizet will represent the Ducks in the second flight. At Duncanville High School in Texas, Moore participated in several events, including the long jump and the 100-meter dash. As a junior, Moore set a personal best in the long jump with a 24' 7" leap. He ran the 100-meter dash in 10.51 seconds as well. After a freshman season with the Ducks, where he made 34 catches for 497 yards and scored four total touchdowns, Moore has focused on becoming more mature as he recovered from a late-season injury.
Although he initially intended to participate with the Ducks' track and field team more often, the pressure and intensity of football forced him to take a step back. Now, Moore is ready to don the tracksuit with the Ducks for the first time.“I was supposed to do it when I first got here," Moore said. "But I felt that football workout, and I was not gonna be able to do it. But being that, I feel like more mature now, I'm able to go out there and fight for what I love.”Even though he might be known for his speed on the football field, Moore is only going to be showcasing his jumping ability on Friday."Long Jump is like something that I have, like, most of my love for," Moore said.
"It's something that I feel like is my isolation piece, something I can step away and just like work on my craft individually.”The event is set to begin at 3:10 p.m. PT at Hayward Field and is free to the public. The event can also be streamed live on Big Ten Plus with a subscription.Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions. This article originally appeared on Ducks Wire: Oregon WR Dakorien Moore suiting up for track and field event
