Middle chapters have a reputation problem. They’re often accused of being transitional, overly indulgent, or incomplete, doing the heavy lifting between a clean beginning and a decisive end. The first film introduces the world and sets the tone; the third brings everything home. The second is left to complicate everything without the comfort of closure.
