Don't say we didn't warn you: These are some very creepy horror movie scenes. The Basement Scene in The Blair Witch Project (1999) Credit: C/O Somehow the creepiest thing about this creepy horror movie scene is... posture. Almost nothing we’ve seen on film is as scary as Mike’s body language at the end, in the basement — his shame, his fear, his surrender.
He knows he's done wrong, but he's too afraid to fight back. The stars of The Blair Witch Project — Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael Williams — are marking its 25th anniversary and plans for a reboot by asking Lionsgate for more money and “meaningful consultation” on future projects. Whatever comes of it, Williams definitely earned his money with the basement scene.
Our favorite thing about this very creepy scene is that it didn't take fancy VFX, a big budget, or even dialogue — just great physical acting. The Tongue Trap Scene in Spiral (2021) Lionsgate - Credit: Lionsgate In the opening scene of Spiral, crooked detective Marv Bozwick (Dan Petronijevic) finds himself in a trap designed to punish him for his lying tongue. Hung by a vice attached to his tongue, he's positioned directly in the path of an oncoming train.
The only way to free himself and get out of the train's way is to jump down from the box and rip out his tongue. He waits too long to make his choice and ends up losing both his life and his tongue. One of the most unsettling and creepy horror movie scenes.
It's a scene so grotesque we can't even show you a still. So we're just showing you a wall from Spiral. The Picnic Scene in The House That Jack Built (2018) Matt Dillon in The House That Jack Built (2018) - Credit: C/O Lars Von Trier's 2018 horror film The House That Jack Built follows Matt Dillon as a deranged serial killer over 12 years of his life as he murders people.
One of the creepiest scenes in the film is when Jack brings a woman and her kids on a hunting trip. What she doesn't realize is that they are about to be hunted. Jack shoots both of the woman's sons dead and then forces her to go have a picnic with him along with her dead sons.
He even makes her feed their lifeless bodies before he kills her too, displaying the three of them in a disturbing formation beneath rows of birds he has also killed. Annie's Possession Scene in Hereditary (2018) Toni Collette in Hereditary(2018) A24 - Credit: C/O In Ari Aster's horrifying feature directorial debut, Toni Collette plays Annie, a mother of two who is haunted by a sinister force after the death of her own secretive mother. In this unforgettable creepy horror movie scene, Annie, now possessed by a demon, chases her son (Alex Wolff) and slams her head repeatedly into the attic door when he locks her out.
Inexplicably and with demonic strength, she somehow gets into the attic anyway and begins to decapitate herself with piano wire while suspended in the air. The Opening Scene of Midsommar (2019) A still from Midsommar. Photo credit: A24 - Credit: C/O Ari Aster's incredible second feature film Midsommar is remembered more for the spooky Swedish town and its murderous village antics than for its opening scene, but it's one of the most creepy horror movie scenes.
With a sharp cut from a pleasant, if ominous, view of a snow-covered forest to a view of the main character Dani's (Florence Pugh) family home, we learn that Dani's sister has murdered her parents in their sleep with carbon monoxide poisoning. The Killer's Method in What Have You Done to Solange? (1972) Credit: Italian International Film This 1972 Giallo horror film is about a teacher at a private school having an affair with one of his students, played by Cristina Galbó, above. But the student-teacher affair isn't the creepiest part.
A killer is creeping around the campus, preying on young woman, and his manner of killing them, illustrated in a pelvic X-ray scene, is beyond upsetting. The Walk Into the Water in Last House on the Left (1972) Credit: C/O Hallmark Releasing Last House on the Left includes a horrible, prolonged scene of some sickos tormenting young women they have kidnapped. But the worst part is the end of the sequence, when one of the victims, Mari (Sandra Peabody, left) is so shattered and resigned to her death that she just walks hopelessly into the water.
Wes Craven went on to make the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream films, but this is the scariest scene he's ever filmed. The Walk With Jesus Scene in Saint Maud (2019) Morfydd Clark in Saint Maud (2019) - Credit: C/O In this British horror movie by director Rose Glass, Morfydd Clark plays Maud, a very pious young nurse who embraces Roman Catholicism after a life-changing trauma. In one horrifying scene, she decides to punish herself saint-style when she goes on a hedonistic bender after being fired by the cancer patient whose soul she was trying to save. In an effort to repent for her sins, she puts the sharp ends of thumbtacks face up in the souls of her shoes and forces herself to walk around town
