The last time Beavercreek played Fenwick in boys volleyball it was a loss Victor Peterson didn’t want to occur again.Peterson is a senior volleyball player at Beavercreek. Playing against Fenwick on April 8, he produced 11 kills and career-highs of 14 digs and 10 blocks to help his team prevail in five sets. For his efforts, Peterson was named the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week for April 12, earning the honor through reader voting at DaytonDailyNews.com.“I learned I got nominated from my trainers,” Peterson said. “I thank the school for posting about it and helping me win and thanks to my parents to getting everybody to vote for me.”Playing in the middle, Peterson was a vital piece of helping the Beavers come back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set and eventually prevail. It’s not his most preferred position on the court, favoring himself as an outside player, but likes the responsibility it gives him.“I love being on this team.
I love all my teammates,” he said. “A lot of them have been on the same team for three years now, and being able to know everybody has been great.”Peterson ranks near the top of several categories among all Greater Western Ohio Conference players this season. He is the leader in service aces (32), second in passes with a 2.21 average, and is third in kills (98).However, he also is the league leader in blocks (35), which is what he likes to do most on the volleyball court.“I love being able to shut someone down,” he said.
“Stopping someone from being able to score is just the best feeling.”He hopes the camaraderie between the group helps the team win the GWOC and advance farther into the postseason than in recent seasons.Even with his skills on the court shining, Peterson reiterated his off the court relationships are his favorite part of playing volleyball.“I can’t really explain it,” he said. “It’s just the fun memories of just being with everybody, messing around during out of season and in season.”
