Attacker Barry withdraws from England squad with ankle injuryAttacker Keira Barry has pulled out of the England squad after failing to shake off an ankle injury.England head coach Sarina Wiegman confirmed the news when speaking to the media in Reykjavik earlier today.The 20-year-old was set to be a member of the Lionesses squad which will contest a FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualifier against Iceland on Saturday evening but the player has not been able to overcome her injury in time to travel.Commenting on Barry’s withdrawal earlier today, England boss Wiegman said “Unfortunately, Keira Barry had to leave us. She has had some ankle problems and she didn’t get ready to be available for tomorrow.”Barry was handed her first call-up to the Lionesses senior squad last week.

The player made the step up after previously impressing both at Under-23 level and with her club, Bay FC. Barry was named amongst the substitutes for England’s 1-0 victory over Spain at Wembley in midweek, although she remained unused.The attacker will now hope to shake off her injury and continue to perform well back at club. Barry could be in the picture for a further England call-up when the Lionesses complete their initial FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualifying campaign in June.
