With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to feature both Punisher and The Hand, characters heavily associated with the Man Without Fear in the MCU, speculation about Matt Murdock’s involvement has only grown stronger. However, Cox’s latest comments have dashed hopes and made the possibility increasingly unlikely.
Charlie Cox confirms again that Daredevil isn’t in Spider-Man: Brand New Day At the BAFTA Games Awards, the Merv actor was approached by a reporter, intending to ask about the former’s involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before the latter could even finish his question, Charlie Cox replied while smiling, “I’m not in it. I’m not in it.” The interviewer then brought up the final shot from the teaser trailer, where Spider-Man lunges at multiple members of The Hand.
Sharing his belief that other heroes were present besides the webslinger in that scene, but edited out to not spoil the surprise, they asked Cox whether he was in it or not. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m not there,” the actor responded. He added that unless the filmmakers digitally inserted him later on, he wasn’t present.
The reporter joked to the Daredevil star that his lack of involvement is heartbreaking, to which Cox, who has previously expressed interest in his character joining forces with Spider-Man, said he felt the same. View this post on Instagram Cox earlier denied Daredevil’s involvement in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month. However, during a back-and-forth with the host — where he brought up his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home — he said that even if he were in Brand New Day, he wouldn’t disclose it.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinema screens on July 31, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the movie from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers’ screenplay. Tom Holland stars as the title character, leading a supporting cast that includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo.
Meanwhile, the first five episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are currently streaming on Disney+. Dario Scardapane co-created it with Matt Corman and Chris Ord, and also serves as showrunner. Originally reported by Abdul Azim Naushad on SuperHeroHype.
