Mahesh Bhatt and T-Series’ Aashiqui (1990) became a surprise musical hit back in the day. Starring newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, one of the main reasons for the film’s success was its music. The songs were composed by the celebrated duo Nadeem-Shravan and penned by lyricist Sameer Anjaan.
More than two decades later, the makers came up with the second film in the franchise titled Aashiqui 2 (2013), starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. This time, however, Sameer didn’t come on board to write the songs. Sharing the reason, he told Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive chat, “I was offered Aashiqui 2.
Mahesh ji had called me but I left the film. I said that if there is no Nadeem-Shravan, it doesn’t make sense for me to do another Aashiqui. That (first film) was a teamwork.
Even they would have felt bad that I am doing it without them. It is not that they had stopped me from doing the film. It’s just that my conscience said that I shouldn’t do it.” T-Series now has another musical love story in the pipeline, which is directed by Anurag Basu and stars Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela in lead roles.
It has the reprised version of the song ‘Tu Meri Zindagi Hai’ from Aashiqui. Sameer agreed to write lyrics for this song. The veteran lyricist said, “I had written the original song ‘Tu Meri Zindagi Hai’.
In this one, they only wanted to change the verses. I personally like Anurag Basu, so I did it. Pritam also urged me to write this song.
All the verses are different from the original song. I hope this song also receives the same love.” Sameer touched upon these topics while talking about his newly-launched music label Aumora Music.
