First released back in 1997 as the seventh main installment in Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy VII was the entry that saw the otherwise underrated series break into mainstream media, so it was perhaps no surprise it was the first in a remake trilogy back in 2020 with Final Fantasy VII Remake, followed by Final Fantasy VII Rebirthin 2024. With the third and final entry expected to launch some time in 2027, hype is still very much alive and kicking, but a recent announcement may spell disappointment for some fans.
