There's a version of every show you've ever liked on Netflix. After famously passing on Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, a series that has nearly singlehandedly sustained Paramount+ for years, Netflix produced several replacements for its audience. None of them took off.

But the timing was right for dark comedy anthologies that tackle thorny themes of human frailty and class; HBO has The White Lotus, and Netflix has its own breakout version that was able to stand out. The Netflix series debuted to rave reviews in 2023, and it recently returned with an all-new cast for a second season of eight episodes.
