Rivera is 22 years old and made two starts in Double-A this season.
He allowed one earned run and six hits in those two starts. Now, he will get a crack at Triple-A for the first time.Rivera played in 10 games at the Double-A level last season, making nine starts and posting a 4.25 ERA. This year, he pitched for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
He threw just one inning in spring training. He made four starts in the Puerto Rican Winter League as well.Rivera was originally an 11th-round pick by the Athletics in 2021. He was released in 2024 and picked up by the Red Sox.
He has moved quickly through the organization and is now just one call-up away from taking a big-league mound. The 6-foot-7, 237-pound southpaw has a fastball that sits in the low-to-mid 90s, but can get up to 98 mph.He relies more on carry than velocity and has a solid slider and changeup as well.
