The episode dropped shortly after President Donald Trump shared a now-deleted AI-generated image that appeared to depict him as Jesus Christ. Fans have since discussed the striking parallels between the episode and the real-life post by Trump, which the Amazon Prime Video series’s showrunner recently also addressed.
Eric Kripke promises Homelander’s God plot and Trump’s AI Jesus are coincidental Eric Kripke said that the similarity between Homelander positioning himself as a god and Donald Trump’s AI post was purely coincidental. Speaking to TVLine, the Supernatural creator shared, “We wrote this episode two years ago, even before the election.” Highlighting Homelander’s growing mental instability over the course of the show, he added that the idea surfaced while he and the creatives discussed Homelander’s current story trajectory and the appearance of his “final form.” Kripke recalled how he viewed the idea as “crazy” when it was first pitched.
“My concern was that everyone would think Homelander had gone too far and it had gotten cartoonish,” he elaborated. “That was my legitimate concern. But the world keeps out-crazying us.” Kripke continued, expressing his frustration at real-life events mirroring the series’ satirical approach.
“It’s honestly exhausting,” he added, before expressing his wish for the Trump administration to stop promoting their show. In a separate interview with Polygon, Kripke revealed that one month ago, while discussing marketing, he told creatives that they had to be “careful” about introducing the idea of Homelander calling himself God, stressing it was “so out there.” He added that this was because he anticipated public reaction claiming The Seven’s leader had “gone too far.” Noting how their current creative predicament was because of Trump’s post, Kripke further stated, “It’s just really hard to out-satire this world.” The Boys Season 5’s first three episodes are currently streaming.
New episodes will drop weekly on Wednesdays until May 20, 2026. The show is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic series of the same name. Originally reported by Abdul Azim Naushad on SuperHeroHype.
