For years, fans have tuned into ‘A Touch More,’ but a recent announcement from Sue Bird confirms the show as they know it is about to change dramatically. It was their lively energy and fun dynamic of Sur Bird and soccer legend Megan Rapinoe that got millions of viewers tuning in to every episode scoop, but now things have taken a wild turn as the couple has amicably decided to go their separate ways. “There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news.
After a lot of thought, we’ve made the decision to separate as a couple,” was the news that was shared by the couple in a joint Instagram statement. View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Sporting News (@sportingnews) The duo also stressed that coming to this point wasn’t “an easy decision,” but noted that it’s one they made together “with so much love, respect, and care for each other,” thus ending almost a decade-long relationship. A relationship that blossomed during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio saw two of sports’ biggest icons come together from different worlds.
While Bird is a Hall of Fame basketball player and five-time Olympic gold medalist, Rapinoe is also a fellow gold medalist and two-time World Cup winner. It was a relationship that felt destined to happen, and not long after, the couple announced their engagement on Instagram in October 2020. But now those are things of the past as the couple will look to stare down the road ahead.
But the reassuring thing about it is that the relationship of 10 years didn’t end on a sour note. “We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us. We are so grateful to this incredible community that has held us up, welcomed us in, and supported us exactly as we are.
So many of you have reminded us, again and again, why loving out loud matters,” Bird and Rapinoe have jointly announced. But that created a pressing concern in the minds of their fans as to what it does for their podcast. Is It Finally The End For “A Touch More”?
The couple’s announcement immediately raised a pressing question for their millions of listeners: Is this the end of ‘A Touch More’? “It’s gonna look a little bit different moving forward. Obviously, our relationship was such a huge part of this podcast…we are not going to be hosting this podcast together every week,” Megan had said of the matter, talking about a change of things that’s about to happen.
“We aren’t going anywhere. We’re going to be doing a little trade-off, hosting six more special episodes of A Touch More,” Sue assured the listeners that not much is about to change. Sue and Megan said they made the decision to split together.
As for the podcast? Megan: it’s gonna look a little bit different moving forward. So a little change-up is bound to happen. Honestly, for many, this break-up was even hard to conceive, as after the engagement, the couple was also on the lookout for a tropical wedding venue, and they shared this piece of news with PEOPLE. Even Mexico was on the couple’s radar, and even clothing requirements for the guests were discussed, but that eventually did not materialize.
The “A Touch More” podcast, too, had come a long way since its expansion from the “A Touch More Live” series, which started on Instagram during the COVID pandemic. Partnering with Vox Media, it launched its weekly format and gained popularity among both soccer and basketball enthusiasts around the globe. While the long-term future is uncertain, fans can look forward to six final special episodes hosted by the duo, even as Megan plans to launch her own show this summer.
