Science fiction has always been an enticing genre, taking us beyond our time and place to futures and worlds unknown. That's enough to draw in audiences and build legions of fans devoted to the various franchises that have developed over the years. Those franchises can be hit or miss, as is inevitable when they so often are subject to changes in the creative teams behind them and the ever-evolving cinematic landscape. Even so, fans will still diligently sit through their most interminable efforts; that's the addictive effect of sci-fi cinema.
