Lake McRee was Mister Consistent and Mister Reliable in his tenure at USC. The Trojans had flashy playmakers with two studs at receiver; those guys took up a lot of attention. Lake McRee simply made plays when he needed to, and he consistently made an impact even when he got no targets.
McRee more than likely will be a late-round NFL draft pick or an undrafted free agent. I still believe he can make an impact for an NFL franchise. Here are the best landing spots for Trojan Lake McRee: Chicago BearsBen Johnson prioritizes getting 12 and 13 personnel, and he is a big fan of having versatile tight ends. Colston Loveland is the premier weapon, and Cole Kmet is a great compliment to what Loveland does.
The Bears are missing a 3rd tight end, and Lake McRee would be a great pick for that role. McRee knows his role, he works hard, and he would fit in the culture perfectly. McRee can block, making him a great asset in the run game, and he can make plays in the pass game.
Philadelphia EaglesThe Eagles brought back Dallas Goedert, who is a top tight end in the league. The one thing they are missing is a serviceable blocking tight end. The Eagles' run game took a big hit last season due to them not being as physical at the point of attack.
Adding a good blocking tight end in McRee could help that run game come back to life. McRee can also be a tight end who steps up if Dallas gets hurt.Baltimore Ravens The Ravens still have Mark Andrews, who has been Lamar's favorite target in his career in Baltimore, but losing both Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar are 2 colossal losses. The Ravens will need to add maybe 2 tight ends in the draft or sign a veteran free agent tight end.
Just like Ben Johnson, Declan Doyle will be big on multiple tight end sets. That has always been the Ravens' motto as well. I could see McRee slotting in as the 2nd or 3rd tight end in Baltimore and thriving in that role.Denver Broncos Evan Engram did not deliver in Denver in year 1 as many expected.
The Broncos still need better play out of the tight end position and depth at the very least. Lake McRee fits the mold of a Sean Payton tight end, and I think he could end up being a big steal for the Broncos. He could become a very serviceable target for Bo Nix.
Indianapolis ColtsThe Colts are a heavy ground and pound team, with playmakers that can make things happen when they get the ball in their hands. Tyler Warren lived up to the hype prior to Daniel Jones getting hurt, but after that, the Colts did not get much production from their backup tight ends. I think McRee can join this position group and be a reliable second tight end in this offense, being an asset in many ways. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: USC's Lake McRee could be high-quality backup tight end in NFL
