Security operatives in Sokoto State have arrested a commercial driver, popularly known as Aminu Rubber, for allegedly providing logistical support to Lakurawa terrorists and facilitating the sale of rustled cattle. The suspect, a native of Maikulki village in Binji Local Government Area, was arrested in Wariya village, Tangaza LGA, following intelligence gathered from a passenger who grew suspicious of his activities. Local sources said the driver operated along the Binji–Tangaza route, transporting passengers before proceeding to Wariya, an area reportedly linked to bandit hideouts.

There, he allegedly collected stolen livestock and transported them to the Tangaza cattle market for sale. Proceeds from the transactions were said to be used to procure supplies for the criminal group. His activities came under scrutiny after an unusual incident during one of his trips.

Armed men, suspected to be members of the same group, intercepted his vehicle and seized N2 million at gunpoint without harming any passengers. “They didn’t touch anyone in the vehicle. They only took the money and fled into the bush.

That raised suspicion among the passengers, leading one of them to alert security operatives,” a Special Adviser to the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government area on security, Gharzali Rakah confirmed. Following the tip-off, security agencies placed the suspect under surveillance. He was eventually arrested on Tuesday while attempting to sell four cows at a local market.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in selling rustled cattle and supplying logistics to the Lakurawa over a period of time. Police sources confirmed that he is currently in custody of the anti-kidnapping unit as investigations continue. However, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, were unsuccessful, as calls placed to him were not answered at the time of filing this report.
