After learning that her toxic ex was still trying to take advantage of her employee discount months after their breakup, a woman who works at an internet customer service call center refused to put up with it. That’s her discount, and she wasn’t going to keep sharing what was rightfully hers. She knew he was making a lot of money.
According to her, he had a successful “side hustle” and a decent job, and when they were together, he was quite open about his desire to continue being the household’s proud provider. Nevertheless, he was happy to apply her $ 10-a-month employee discount to the internet bill. She was happy to share at that time, managing their money like a skilled, loyal accountant, but after their breakup, she thought she had cut all ties with him.
She accidentally found a chance for petty revenge, which may never be financially significant to him but is a major win for her. “Called my ISP today for generic WiFi troubleshooting triage, and inadvertently discovered that ‘my’ employee discount is apparently still being used by my ex-fiance at our former residence, which I wasn’t aware he was still residing at,” she said. Discovered (by accident) that my ex-fiance is still using my employee discount. byu/disjointed_chameleon inpettyrevenge “The representative asked me if I’d like to terminate the discount at the former residence, and if I’d like to have it applied to my current address,” she went on.
“Why yes, yes I would, kind sir, thank you very much.” “This is a man who believed banging his fists against walls was acceptable behavior.” She went on to share about him and his income, “Dude isn’t exactly suffering financially, either: he earns over $160,000+ per year in salary, an additional $3,000 per month from a side hustle that only eats up a few hours per month.” “Another $1,500+ per month in profit from an investment property, and also recently pocketed over $100,000 from the sale of another property,” she continued. “Buddy can afford an extra $10/month for internet service.” She went on to share, “While I earn a comfortable salary, I also have a condition that has me [doing] regular treatments, whereas he’s totally healthy and able-bodied.
I also work far longer hours than he does, not to mention I’m in a far more stressful profession than he is.” There were many comments below her Reddit post, all expressing their reactions and their own experiences. “Discount denied,” wrote one Reddit user. “Cutting people off of things they shouldn’t have access to anymore is one of my favourite things!” wrote another user.
“My former tenant learned this after she moved out and refused to log out of my Netflix. She even texted me and asked for the new password!” A third user wrote, “What! That’s crazy! I’m so sorry.” Another commenter gave her advice regarding what more the woman can do, “Might want to have that account flagged so when he calls to say he is entitled to the discount, they hit him with fraud charges and make him repay what he wasn’t entitled to for the time you left until finding out.” Sign up to receive the Daily Dot’s Internet Insider newsletter for urgent news from the frontline of online.
