Capitec is rapidly expanding its Smart ID services, with the bank now offering the service at 86 branches nationwide as part of its partnership with the Department of Home Affairs. The rollout, which began in early March 2026, is already gaining momentum. According to the bank, more than 71 000 Smart ID applications have been processed through its branches in just a few weeks.

Two previously listed sites, Mompati Mall in Vryburg and New Boxer Centre in Elliotdale, were no longer visible.
The bank has not yet clarified the reason for this. Making ID services more accessible The expansion forms part of a broader push to bring Home Affairs services closer to where people live and shop. By using its existing footprint, Capitec is helping reduce long queues and travel times traditionally associated with Home Affairs offices. With strong early demand and rapid growth, the bank’s Smart ID rollout is quickly becoming one of the most widely used access points for the service in South Africa.
