Since the show’s Prime Video debut in 2022, the prequel drama has maintained an average approval rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. When will Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power be released?

Despite recent rumors about The Rings of Power Season 3’s speculated 2027 release, it seems like fans will get to watch the next chapter of the hit fantasy drama a lot sooner than expected. According to THR, the studio might be planning to release Season 3 sometime this year. The highly anticipated new season is seyt to have a massive time jump after the events of the Season 2 finale.

“In Season 3, jumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last,” reads the show’s new synopsis. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic Lord of the Rings novel series, the show is developed and executive-produced by showrunners J.D.

Payne and Patrick McKay. The series features an ensemble cast led by Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Owain Arthur as Durin IV, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Trystan Gravelle as Pharazôn, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, Daniel Weyman as Gandalf, and more. Season 3 will also introduce new characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower, Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla, and Adam Young.

Executive producers are Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, and Charlotte Brändström.
