IRVINE, Calif. — Louis Sakanoko put down a match-high 12 kills and No. 1 seed Hawaii used its block to seize control of the match in the third set to advance to the final of the Outrigger Big West Men’s Volleyball Championship with a 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 25-13 win over No. 5 UC San Diego today at Bren Events Center.UH sophomore Trevell Jordan hit .700 with eight kills and four blocks and Ofeck Hazan, who replaced an injured Justin Todd late in the first set, had four kills and four blocks to help the Rainbow Warriors (27-4) reach their sixth Big West tournament final in eight tries.Hawaii last trailed in the match at 9-8 in the third set before taking control.Adrien Roure, who was hitting negative for the match in the third set, finished with 10 kills and hit .261.Hawaii had 11.5 blocks and dominated the final set, hitting .421. UCSD made 12 attack errors in the fourth set.Sebastiano Sani had 12 kills and Josh Ewert put down 10 kills to lead UC San Diego (13-14), which tied a season high with 15 blocks.Hawaii will play the winner of tonight’s second semifinal between No. 2 seed Long Beach State and host UC Irvine on Saturday at 2 p.m.
