There's something about setting up a DSM-powered network-attached storage (NAS) device. DiskStation Manager is the software that powers the brand's catalog of products. It's one of the primary reasons Synology NAS is so often recommended, particularly to beginners buying their first enclosure.

The issue with pre-built NAS systems compared to a DIY setup is the end of life (EoL) date, which usually puts a halt to software updates outside of critical security patching. This isn't great if you wish to be running the latest and greatest from the likes of Synology, Asustor, and other brands.
