Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer al-Ghurairi announced on Thursday the launch of an integrated electronic platform aiming to facilitate company registration procedures. During a press conference held in Baghdad, al-Ghurairi described the step as a foundation for automating procedures and speeding transactions for both domestic and foreign enterprises, consequently improving the country’s business and investment climate. According to al-Ghurairi, digital transformation in Iraq has become an economic necessity for improving the government’s performance.

In late 2024, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized that the government has included digital transformation into its economic and administrative reforms, as well as electronic payments. The Iraqi cabinet inaugurated in February 2025 the Digital Transformation and Automation Center at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a step al-Sudani described as an essential part of the country’s plan for digital business and artificial intelligence. The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Ali al-Alaq, revealed that the government is developing a plan for a full-scale digital transformation.

In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Alaq clarified that the government is operating in accordance with a strategy aiming to shift to a digital government. He noted that Iraqi ministries will take the lead, as actions have already been taken, initiatives have been introduced, and a data center has been established. Iraq is currently experiencing an advanced stage of digital revolution, marked by a transition from manual processes to a digital infrastructure approach. Recent developments have highlighted significant advancements in connectivity and digital transformation.
