Ever since Hollywood found a niche in the remake market, there has been a question about whether a horror reimagining can surpass its predecessor. Gus Van Sant's shot-by-shot remake of Psycho failed when rendering Hitchcock's classic for modern audiences, but 1993's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers by Abel Ferrara proved that tweaking a few horror elements can work. Regardless, remakes and reboots have always been controversial, and they still cause most people in the horror community to frown at the idea of seeing their favorite features re-adapted for modern audiences.
