There's no question that the immense success of Cobra Kai revived the Karate Kid franchise in an unexpectedly huge way. The Netflix show probably made the martial arts saga more famous than it's ever been, while also being a great project in its own right. An expert blend of legacy sequel and modern reboot, Cobra Kai looked to provide a clear way forward for the Miyagi-verse when Season 6 ended the show last year. However, even after Cobra Kai set up a long-awaited return to the big screen for the franchise, the story at large is in a startlingly worrying sort of holding pattern.
