MANILA, Philippines – Light Rail Transit System 2 (LRT-2) passengers can now park at Santolan Station for free starting Monday, April 27. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday, April 24, said this initiative seeks to encourage vehicle owners to use public transportation as fuel prices continue to increase due to the conflict in the Middle East. Complimentary parking is available daily from 4 am to 11:30 pm on a first-come, first-served basis.
Overnight parking is not allowed. To avail of free parking, passengers must secure a parking stub from security personnel at the Santolan parking area. Passengers may then board the LRT-2.
Upon reaching their destination station, the parking stub must be validated at the Passenger Assistance Office. Note that validation is not available at Santolan Station. Before exiting the parking area, the validated parking stub must be presented to security personnel.
To promote mass public transportation and lessen the demand for fuel, DOTr also began offering a 50% fare discount on March 23.. See the new fare matrix here. – Rappler.com
