Mansoor Delane was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. The former LSU football cornerback was the first defensive back selected after the Chiefs traded up. Delane spent one year at LSU after spending the first three years of his collegiate career at Virginia Tech.

But Delane's lone season in Baton Rouge was stellar. Delane earned consensus All-American honors, joining an elite list of LSU legends.Delane was the best cornerback in the country. Per PFF, Delane's PFF defensive grade was 90.5, a whole seven points better than any other corner in the SEC.

Delane only allowed 14 catches all year, breaking up seven passes and allowing a passer rating when targeted of 31.3. Delane appeared in 44 games across his four-year collegiate career. He notched 108 solo tackles, 8 interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

LSU has a strong tradition of producing NFL defensive backs, earning the reputation of "DBU." Delane looks to continue that legacy at the professional level. There are some questions about Delane's athleticism, but he's a smart football player and the fundamentals are elite.

Delane has a physical presence on the outside, and he's capable of living in man coverage or playing zone. Pick No. 6 is slightly earlier than where Delane was projected to go. Most mocks slotted Delane to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 12.

Others suggested Delane was in play for the New Orleans Saints at No. 8. But the Chiefs thought Delane was worth a premium and Kansas City made the move to get their guy. This article originally appeared on LSU Wire: LSU Draft Update: Mansoor Delane picked No. 6 overall by Kansas City
