Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images | Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images The Eagles have been linked to veteran edge rusher Jonathan Greenard since the early days of free agency, but nothing has officially transpired between Howie Roseman and the Minnesota Vikings’ front office.
As teams prepare for the first round of the NFL Draft, a potential trade may have been leaked that sends Greenard to Philadelphia at some point over the weekend. On a recent podcast, NFL writer Ollie Connolly suggested to host Jon Ledyard that the deal was already in place (beginning around 1:19:00).“LEDYARD: Alright, Philly’s on the clock here, and you’re saying they’re getting Jonathan Greenard, huh? Is this breaking news, or is this out there?CONNOLLY: I assume it’s out there, right?LEDYARD: I don’t think so, Ollie.CONNOLLY: Ok. Uh-oh…LEDYARD: Gonna get aggregated.CONNOLLY: This has become tricky.
I think the edge need will be sold on the second day of the draft both through a trade and through trying to find one of the real spaces off of the ball and adding another pass rusher to the mix.“Connolly goes on to talk about how the Eagles might look at drafting an offensive lineman to wait in line behind Lane Johnson, or a wide receiver to replace A.J. Brown, but ultimately he proposes the team goes with an OT with their first round pick. The Eagles getting Greenard also tracks with other recent reports that the team was looking to add veteran players and could use their draft capital to make moves.
We’ll have to wait to see if this ends up transpiring, but Howie Roseman loves making a trade, so if he wants Greenard, he’ll figure it out.Do you want the Eagles to trade for Jonathan Greenard? Or would you rather they use a Day 2 draft pick on a rookie?Let us know in the comments!BGN commenter pdemp also has some good dot-connecting going on in The Feed:
