Nasarawa Amazons recorded a dominant 4-0 victory over Confluence Queens of Lokoja in their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Week 16 clash of group B at the Lafia Township Stadium on Wednesday. Striker Ayatse Hembafan gave the Amazons an early lead in the 4th minute before completing her brace in the 29th minute to put the hosts 2-0 up. Omotoke Ogunfuwa extended the lead to three in the 32nd minute, as the Amazons went into the break with a commanding advantage.
Despite several attempts by the visiting Confluence Queens, the Amazons maintained control throughout the second half. Osinachi Ohale Ugbala then sealed the rout with a fourth goal in the 75th minute. Speaking after the match, Nasarawa Amazons’ Coach, Christopher Danjuma, said the league had reached a crucial stage where his side could not afford to drop points.
“The league has come to a very crucial position where we really need to win and win well to be able to make it to the Super Six. “So this is one of those matches that whatever we have, we cannot reserve anything but go out here to play it,” Danjuma said. He noted that the team had struggled with goals in recent matches and adjusted training to focus on players who get into the box.
“You can see we got three goals from set pieces and one in the run of play. So we had to work holistically to get to where we are,” he added.
