Over the last 20 years, few franchises have seen as many spikes and declines in popularity as Dexter. The show first premiered back in 2006, and by the time it went off the air in 2013, it was considered one of the most popular series in the world. Its popularity faded a bit over the next 10 years, but it wasn’t until the launch of Dexter: New Blood that the franchise was back in the spotlight.

The show was met with poor reviews by long-time fans of the franchise, so much so that it was canceled after only one season and has since been disregarded as not even canon to Dexter’s story. When Dexter was added to Netflix a few years ago, it sparked a resurgence that led to several spin-offs, but things haven’t exactly gone according to plan.
