Sean McVay and Les Snead met with the media on Thursday night after drafting Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in Round 1. Snead spoke highly of Simpson during the press conference, but McVay’s answers were brief and his body language didn’t resemble what you’d usually see from a coach who landed his next franchise QB.Fans and analysts took notice of McVay’s lack of excitement over the pick, questioning whether he was on board with it. Peter Schrager is here to diffuse any concerns about a rift in the Rams’ building. He said on ESPN’s “Get Up” that McVay likes his new quarterback.“As much as McVay was doing all that, trust me.

McVay is a Ty Simpson fan,” Schrager affirmed. The thinking, the secrecy, the and communication behind the Rams' selection of Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick. A delicate dance to be sure. @GetUpESPN@tejfbanalyticspic.twitter.com/plEIpthKQ2— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) April 24, 2026It’s hard to imagine McVay wasn’t in lockstep with Snead on this pick. He’s the head coach, and the two of them work incredibly closely on all things – including the draft process.Perhaps his reaction was subdued so as not to publicly celebrate the fact that the Rams just drafted Matthew Stafford’s replacement. The Rams gave Stafford a heads-up, but maybe McVay didn’t want to look too happy about drafting his heir. And given how closely McVay works with the quarterbacks, he had to have known this is the direction the Rams were going to.This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Rams coach Sean McVay 'is a Ty Simpson fan,' Peter Schrager affirms
