The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis and placed right-hander Braxton Ashcraft on the Major League Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List.Sanders was recalled by the Pirates last Friday and allowed four runs on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 18. He was optioned back to Indianapolis the following day.In eight appearances with Indianapolis on the season, Sanders has a 2.25 ERA (2er/8.0ip) with eight walks and 15 strikeouts.Ashcraft has made five starts for the Pirates this season and is 1-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.

Opponents are hitting just .202 with a .559 OPS against him. By being placed on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List, Ashcraft will miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven. He had been scheduled to start for the Pirates when they return to PNC Park on Monday night to face the St. Louis Cardinals.
