World Book Day has come and gone in 2026, but there's never a bad time to embrace the power of reading for entertainment. Part of the holiday's goal is to celebrate literature's ability to introduce readers of all generations to remarkable stories, both classic and contemporary, and to bring together different cultures through the sharing of those stories. That has also been a goal for PBS and, more specifically, its Masterpiece broadcasts.

Since 1971, the banner has been the home for U.S. viewers to catch some of the best of British television, as well as adaptations of timeless international novels. The streaming era has only made that even easier, with Masterpiece available on Prime Video, where new audiences are now embracing these stories.
