Royal Enfield is reportedly working on a new iteration of its adventure motorcycle lineup, internally codenamed D4G. Expected to be called the Himalayan 440, this upcoming model is likely to revive the accessibility and simplicity that defined the original Himalayan 411, while incorporating mechanical elements from the newer Royal Enfield Scram 440. The Himalayan 440 is expected to visually draw inspiration from the original Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, maintaining its utilitarian design and rugged appeal.
This approach could help the brand cater to riders who preferred the straightforward and approachable nature of the earlier model, especially compared to the more premium and larger Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Mechanically, the new motorcycle is likely to use the 443cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine currently seen on the Scram 440. This engine produces around 25.4 HP and 34 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
While performance figures are expected to remain similar, minor tweaks cannot be ruled out. In terms of hardware, the Himalayan 440 could share its chassis foundation with the Scram 440 but may feature longer-travel suspension to better suit off-road usage. Wheel setup is expected to follow a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear configuration, similar to the older Himalayan, with dual-purpose tyres.
It remains unclear whether tubeless-compatible spoke wheels will be offered. The motorcycle is also expected to retain a relatively low seat height, likely around the 800 mm mark, which was one of the key factors behind the Himalayan 411’s broad appeal. This could make the new model more accessible to a wider range of riders.
Feature-wise, the focus is expected to remain on essentials. The Himalayan 440 may include switchable ABS and the Tripper navigation system, but is unlikely to offer advanced electronics such as riding modes or traction control. Design updates could include revised colours, graphics and the brand’s newer LED lighting elements.
In terms of pricing, the Himalayan 440 is expected to slot between the Scram 440 and Himalayan 450, with an estimated ex-showroom price ranging from Rs. 2.40 lakhs to Rs. 2.60 lakhs. Launch timelines suggest a possible debut in the second half of the year. Source
