While Rutgers football winds down spring practices for the 2026 season, it has also locked up opponents for the following three campaigns.The Scarlet Knights completed their 2027 opponents by finalizing a home game against LIU, according to a source.That game will be played at SHI Stadium on Sept. 18, 2027.The Sharks, who play in the Northeast Conference, went 6-6 last season. Greg Schiano’s team will also play Akron on Sept. 4 and Boston College on Sept. 11 that season in previously announced non-conference games.Rutgers will then start a home-and-home series against former Big East rival UConn in 2028 and 2029, according to the source.The games will be Sept. 9, 2028 at UConn and Sept. 8, 2029 at SHI Stadium.

That will renew a series that began in 1940 and has included 33 previous meetings. The teams played in the Big East together from 2004-12.The Scarlet Knights have won four of the last six meetings.The Huskies have been on the upswing in recent years, going through a resurgence under former head coach Jim Mora Jr. UConn went 9-4 last season, which culminated with a loss to Army in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.Mora Jr. left after last season to become the head coach at Colorado State.Jason Candle, the former head coach at Toledo, is now at the helm of the Huskies.Candle’s offensive coordinator is former Rutgers assistant (and interim head coach) Nunzio Campanile.Since returning to Rutgers prior to the 2020 season, Schiano has beaten former Big East rivals Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Miami.He'll look to add UConn to the list in 2028.
