After the first installment carved out a profit against a modest budget, fans of the masked murderer now have a concrete timeline for the upcoming movie. Heart Eyes 2 gets 2028 release date The Heart Eyes 2 release date lands strategically on February 11, 2028, just days before Valentine’s Day.
Josh Ruben is back to direct the Heart Eyes sequel and will co-write the screenplay with Darcy Fowler. The story comes from Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy (via Variety). The original Heart Eyes starred Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as co-workers mistaken for lovers by a serial killer who targets couples on Valentine’s Day.
Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster rounded out the cast. It remains unclear who will return for the sequel, and plot details have also not been disclosed. In a previous interview with Variety, Ruben discussed the franchise’s potential.
“I’ll put it this way: You could replicate the structure of any great rom-com, from His Girl Friday to Defending Your Life, and you could drop Heart Eyes into the center of that story, and have him flash and slash about,” he said. He added that the opportunity exists to capture the feeling of films like Bridget Jones or Love Actually while having characters “terrified by this psychopathic killer.” Paramount Pictures steps in to co-produce and co-finance Heart Eyes 2 alongside Spyglass Media. Landon and Divide/Conquer also come in as producers.
There’s also a distribution shift from Sony Pictures, which handled the 2025 original. The first Heart Eyes pulled in $33 million globally against an $18 million production budget. A performance clearly strong enough to warrant a return for the holiday-obsessed killer. For now, fans will have to wait for the Heart Eyes 2 trailer to get a sneak peek at what to expect.
