ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Hambantota International Port said it saw one of its highest-volume vessel calls with MSC Marie Leslie, a container vessel. A reported 7,968 containers were moved during this time, a high of 13,260 TEUs in single-vessel throughput. “This achievement reflects the coordination, discipline and capability of our teams across all functions,” Tommy Yang, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) said.

The latest vessel call for MSC Marie Leslie surpasses previous records, including 12,957 TEUs handled on MSC Ilenia and 11,369 TEUs on MSC Ruby in March, HIP said. The Hambantota International Port has been steadily gaining prominence in logistics as global shipping looks for alternative transshipment hubs due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
