ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s National Development Bank said it has appointed Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India to “conduct a forensic review of the facts and circumstances relating to the fraud incident.” “This Forensic Review will examine the circumstances surrounding the fraudulent transactions, including any lapses in controls, oversight and governance. Its findings, including any interim updates and the final report, will be submitted directly by Deloitte to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.” “The Board has now commissioned Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP (“Deloitte”) to conduct a forensic review of the facts and circumstances relating to the fraud incident.” The commissioning of the Forensic Review has been carried out in consultation with and in line with recommendations provided by the Director of Bank Supervision of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, NDB said.

NDB disclosed to CSE on April 6 of a Rs.13.2 billion fraud that had taken place within the bank. The bank’s external auditors for 2025, Ernst & Young (EY), failed to detect the fraud during the 2025 audit cycle. In its Independent Auditor’s Report for the year ended December 31, 2025, EY said it issued a “true and fair view” of the bank’s financial position. (Colombo/Apr23/2026)
