It’s time to raise the black flag once more, as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the ground-up remake of Ubisoft’s beloved 2013 action-adventure game and perhaps the studio’s worst-kept secret, is finally sailing its way to the modern gaming generation, and in record time, too, as the title will launch on 9 July 2026. Helmed by Ubisoft Singapore, the team behind the naval components of the original 2013 title, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced promises a faithful recreation of the title that boasts not just massively improved graphics, especially in terms of facial animation, but also updated gameplay and even some surprising additions thrown into the mix.

Most importantly, unlike rumours that were circulating prior, the remake will not turn the game into an RPG like the modern Assassin’s Creed titles, instead maintaining the original’s narrative-focused, single-player vision. Built with Ubisoft Anvil, the studio’s proprietary game engine, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s visuals look stunning, but at the same time, just like how players of the original title would remember. Familiar locales look to be faithfully recreated, maintaining their original look and feel while being supplemented by vastly improved environmental detail, such as denser foliage in the game’s many forested segments.

Character faces have seen the greatest improvement of all, helping to better convey emotion in close-ups during cutscenes. On the gameplay front, combat has been modernised with a more action-oriented focus and looks to be faster and more fluid. Armed with his iconic dual swords, Edward Kenway can now time his dodges and parries, similar to the systems seen in 2025’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with the trailer also teasing the ability to perform a perfect parry, which allows him to take down enemies immediately after and follow up with up to four chained takedowns, a feature making its return from the original.

A big part of the original game was its naval combat, and unsurprisingly, this has been kept largely the same in the remake, although it does feature some enhancements in terms of variety, as each naval weapon will now feature an unlockable alternate fire mode to suit a variety of combat scenarios. Stealth has also seen a revamp thanks to the addition of a dedicated crouch button, and based on player feedback, tailing missions don’t simply insta-fail a player when detected, instead forcing players into open combat and tasking them to find alternative ways to achieve their objectives. Finally, the game will also introduce completely new content, including three brand-new officers for Kenway’s crew, each with their own narrative questlines and special gameplay abilities.

Players will now be able to find pets to accompany them on their voyage, including a cat and a monkey. As a remake focused on Kenway’s adventure, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will not include the original’s multiplayer mode or its Freedom Cry DLC. The remake will also feature a new Collector’s Edition, featuring an impressive statue of Kenway sitting at the helm of the Jackdaw, alongside a recreation of his logbook and other goodies. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sails to the modern gaming generation when it launches on 9 July 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
