The Maruti Dzire has emerged as the highest-selling passenger car in India for FY2026 (April 2025 to March 2026), recording sales of approximately 2.3 lakh units. Its performance stands out in a market where SUVs continue to dominate overall demand. A major factor behind the Dzire’s sustained popularity is its well-rounded value proposition.

The model continues to appeal to a wide audience with its competitive pricing, strong fuel efficiency, relatively low ownership costs and extensive service network. Its presence in both private ownership and fleet operations further supports consistent volumes. This achievement comes at a time when SUVs accounted for nearly 66 percent of total passenger vehicle sales during the fiscal year.

Despite this shift in buyer preference, the Dzire’s volumes indicate that there remains a steady demand for practical and efficient sedans, particularly in the compact segment. Maruti Suzuki has also consolidated its position in the sedan category, increasing its market share to 57.2 percent in FY2026 from 45.8 percent in FY2017. The Dzire has played a central role in this growth, especially as options within the sedan space have reduced over time.

Since its introduction in 2008, the model has crossed cumulative sales of over 3 million units in India. The Dzire currently stands as the only sedan in Maruti Suzuki’s domestic lineup following the discontinuation of the Ciaz. While a section of buyers has migrated towards SUVs and MPVs, the Dzire continues to attract customers looking for a balanced, cost-effective offering.

On the safety front, the car has secured a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests. Mechanically, it is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine producing 82 HP and 112 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG version delivers 69.75 HP and 101.8 Nm along with a focus on improved running costs. Looking ahead, the Dzire’s performance highlights the continued relevance of sedans in India’s evolving automotive landscape, even as SUVs dominate market share.
