Who is Matt Gulbin?Gulbin is the latest draft choice of the Washington Commanders. Selected at No. 209 in the sixth round, he is the second choice of the Commanders in this sixth round, Saturday. Earlier at No. 187, the Commander selected Penn State running back Kaytron Allen.Playing center at Michigan State measures 6-3 5/8, weighing 305.
Gulbin started 11 games in 2025 for the Spartans of the Big Ten Conference. Earlier he played at Wake Forest (ACC) and started 23 games. Interestingly, 11 of those starts were at left guard, 11 were at right guard, with only a mere start at center.
Ryan Fowler is optimistic regarding Gulbin: "Matt Gulbin is the most versatile interior offensive lineman in the class with over 10 starts at LG, C, and RG during his time at Wake Forest and Michigan State. Average athlete but will win in a phone booth. Was excellent against Michigan and Penn State last fall."Matt Gulbin is the most underrated '26 OL imo.

Gulbin is better at climbing to linebackers than he is at moving laterally to seal in the run game. He can be outreached at the point, but he stays tight to his block to reduce length disadvantages.
He excels when washing away targets on inside-zone plays with strong leg drive. He anchors well in protection, but he must stay square and be more alert to loopers on twists. Short arms reduce his margin for error but his consistent body of work suggests he has a chance to make a roster as a center who can swing to guard in a pinch. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Washington Commanders: Who is new center Matt Gulbin?
