Star Wars creator George Lucas had his own plan for the Sequel Trilogy before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. Unlike the sequels, Emperor Palpatine wouldn’t have returned from the dead, but another Sith would’ve appeared: Darth Maul. The fan favorite villain was famously underutilized in the prequels, limited to The Phantom Menace despite his enduring popularity. However, it seems that Lucas had plans for the character that went far beyond Maul's revival in The Clone Wars.
